The cube was invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik, a Hungarian architect. It was originally called the "Magic Cube". He got the idea of Rubik's cube from how river pebbles had their edges smoothed away.
In 1980, Rubik's Cube was declared as the toy of the year.
More than 300 million Rubik's cubes have been sold world wide. If you stack them with each other, it would reach north pole from south pole.
Since 2003, the fastest Rubik's Cube solving championships have been held worldwide and called "SpeedCubing".

Any arrangement of the Rubik's Cube can be solved in 20 or fewer moves.
In 2008, Erik Akkersdijk set a world record by completing the Rubik's Cube in 7.08 seconds.
